Well, it’s that time of year again where we begin to struggle to prevent dry skin. As soon as you turn on the heat in your house, the attack on the water in your skin begins! Heat naturally evaporates water. So, as soon as the heat in your home, workplace, car gets turned on, the water in your skin starts to evaporate.
By now we’re sure you have turned on the heat at least once, and we’re sure it’s in your workplace. Be honest, how many have noticed a change in their skin? We know we have!
So what do we do about it? We of course can start using a richer skin moisturizer, but that is just a temporary fix for that day, and usually by the end of the day your skin is as dry then if you never put anything on it! A better solution is to start now preparing your skin for the long, hard, dry winter by giving it a little push to help rejuvenate and regenerate itself. By coaxing your skin into more rapid skin renewal, you are able to not only regenerate newer skin cells that will keep your skin looking younger, but you can also renew the cellular matrix (glue between your skin cells), that helps hold water in your skin. That cellular matrix, as we get older, will start to breakdown making it harder for your skin to hold onto its natural water supply.
What is the best way to accomplish this? A series of Glycolic Acid peels. Glycolic Acid comes from sugar and will naturally seep down through the cellular matrix between the cells, and break it down, forcing your skin to regenerate newer skin cells AND fresh cellular matrix. We recommend a series of lighter peels, so you will have no down time or inflamed skin. You could get 1 peel as strong as a series of 4 lighter peels, but you will be left with slightly burned skin with inflammation. By getting 1 Glycolic peel a week for 4 weeks, you will regenerate your skin a little each week causing a better renewal process. This will help rebuild your skin to hold onto water better throughout the harsh winter months. You will probably need another towards the other side of winter, say around February, but then not again until the fall again. By doing these series of Glycolic acid peels, when you skin needs the MOST regeneration, you will help keep your skin in a more youthful, hydrated condition, preventing and slowing down the formation of fine lines and wrinkles.
Of course maintenance is key during your series of peels! Using compatible products recommended by your esthetician is key to getting the most out of your skin renewal process!
